After that he is brought to Citadel's medical bay to spend six months in a healing coma. Diego stands by his word and the hacker is implanted with a state-of-the-art interface. The hacker agrees and - according to Diego's orders - removes SHODAN's ethical constraints as well as gives Diego level one access to SHODAN.

He is supposed to hack SHODAN, the artificial intelligence which controls Citadel Station.

He is then taken to Citadel Station where the station's Vice President Edward Diego makes an offer: He is willing to drop all charges against the hacker and on top of that get him a military-grade neural interface if he performs a hacking job for him. However, the hacker's intrusion into TriOptimum's systems does not go unnoticed and while he is still sitting in front of his computer his door gets kicked in and he is captured by heavily armed TriOptimum corporate security. One day he manages to hack into the corporate network of the TriOptimum megacorporation and accesses files concerning the corporate space station Citadel. He lives in the Saturn colony New Atlanta. It wouldn't surprise me if Gamma Grove SHODAN (If she even exist, though likely does) gets so different from Beta Grove SHODAN, Citadel SHODAN, and Rebecca Siddons SHODAN that she would try to take them out in being the superior being and wouldn't want to merge with them like The Many attempted to do with the universe. This unnamed hacker is the player character in System Shock 1. Also, SS2 SHODAN died at the end of the second game, and was only able to pass on her new self-unto Rebecca Siddons due to not having any interference with The Many in stopping her third self from assimilating Rebecca, meaning the SHODAN we see at the end of 2 isn't really the SHODAN from Beta Grove. The Hacker destroyed her main source with only a component being her legacy and for all that we know, Level G3 - Gamma Grove may have a completely different SHODAN from the G2 - Beta Grove self, though this has never been confirmed. SS2 SHODAN might not even be SS1 SHODAN, simply because SS1 SHODAN was destroyed by the Hacker, with SS2 SHODAN being only a small piece of her in Beta Grove. Although the personalities with how SHODAN is in the first and second installments show a clear distinction between each other, with the first being more vicious and the other being calmer and more collective.
