Welcome to the Jungle, which got off to a slow start, remained in theaters for half of a year. The key to all of this is Jumanji’s longevity at the box office. China-where The Rock has had great success in the past-pulled in $24.9 million of that revenue, while several other Asian Pacific markets (Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea) and European territories (France, Germany) added big numbers to the grand total. This past weekend alone, The Next Level raked in $153.6 million.
Which-if its foreign gross tells us anything-means The Next Level will have neared the $1 billion mark worldwide before 2020. Before we reach the new decade, The Next Level could very well have already eclipsed the $300 million mark. And that was ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s weekends that were so lucrative for the first Jumanji film. On opening weekend, The Next Level pulled in an absolutely astounding $59.3 million-an 64% increase over Welcome to the Jungle’s three-day opening.
